The issue with obtaining grants from foundations is that you whether have to be very well known, like a children's hospital or a well-established school, or you have to have a very strong "in." Most non profits, especially new ones, typically have neither. So...what to do? Don't sit back and assume you haven't got a shot, instead look at what you Can do.

Do:

Train Table For Kids

1. Work on your public awareness. Try to find a Pr man for your board. If you can't, reconsider hiring one. If you have dinky funds be upfront with your counselor and tell her or him how much you can spend: "we are dinky to 0 so we would appreciate your help in training us on how to implement a Pr campaign."

2. Do something radical, have an outrageous event. Have you ever noticed that on the news you oftentimes see a requisite of a school shaving his head because his students read so many books? This isn't absolutely newsworthy but it's something fun and thoughprovoking and a welcome relief from all the tragedy out there. Send press releases in fullness of time to allow great press/media coverage. If you want to make the evening news (and get your name out there so that when you do submit grant requests the grantor will think "oh, yes, I saw them on the news last week...") then do something silly, interesting, or different. Such as, if you serve habitancy with physical disabilities challenge some of your local businesses to a backward wheelchair race (don't do wheelchair basketball-it's been done to death.) whatever your cause think of what your constituents do and ask some group in your society to duplicate that in some bizarre, twisted way. If you serve beavers have a dam building contest, if you serve blind individuals have a group paint a huge mural blindfolded. Treat your corporate participants like kings and queens. Print their names everywhere, even on the napkins you hand out. Seek a donation as a door prize so that more habitancy will attend the event. Have fun, the sillier the better.

3. Check such directories as the Foundation town (FoundationCenter.org) and study, study, study. Look up agencies similar in cause to yours and see who is funding them. Then peruse those granting sources. (For example if you serve special needs kids look up schools for special kids, schools for kids with autism, therapy programs, etc. If you find the Morgan Foundation and the Shining Friends foundations consistently fund in this cause area then you have a great piece of information on where to target your information.) Find out what their submission guidelines are (deadlines, length, information they want...) conclude if they offer any training on filling out the application and be there with bells on.

4. In our above example you can try asking the Morgan and Shining Friends (fictitious) foundations if you can have fifteen minutes of their time and make a presentation. Put together a small flip chart (that can sit on a desk-or a power point if you can set it up and get it going in a flash avoiding retention them waiting while you fiddle around) with just a few statistics and photos. Make determined you have some heart-touching real-life stories ready to share. You Must have a board member with you as this reinforces your non behalf nature. If the paid staff just go and gift it can appear that they want money to put in their own pocket-a death knell in fundraising. One of the key points to make is that you will Use Their Money Wisely And Exactly As You Say You Will. So you must gift as very expert and trustworthy. The other option to visiting them is to ask them to visit you. Of course, if they agree, you must have something for them to see-like seals being treated, kids in therapy, homeless folks receiving new clothes, etc.

5. Join expert groups such as the association of Fundraising Professionals. They often have seminars where the directors of these foundations speak and hold round table discussions. These are a wealth of information and an opportunity to make great connections. If you want to get close to one of these directors ask them a short, accepted request and start it out by saying: "I'm Davy Jones, I'm the director of Find Homes for Seals, we serve more than 2,000 seals a year, finding them homes, providing health care..., and I had a request about item 14..." Use that two second opportunity to get your name and mission out there. One of the top rules in fund raising is manufacture yourself known!

6. Take a grant request writing course. There you will learn invaluable tips on grant etiquette and approaches that help you gift as an assosication that knows what it is doing.

Don't:
1. At conferences and seminars don't stalk those granting directors. Never intrude. Never make yourself a nuisance. I've seen women supervene a grant director into the bathroom. How rude is that? And how self-defeating?

2. Send grant requests (remember the precise terminology is that the papers you submit to a grant board are the grant request while the check they send you back is the grant therefore you are "grant request writing,") to everyone and their brother hoping that man will read it and give you money. It is a terrible waste of trees, ink, postage, and your time.

3. Send videos or newsletters. This makes you look like an amateur.

4. Call two weeks after you've submitted your request and expect them to know who you are and the status of your request. Exception: if it's been six months a gentle inquiry is okay. Sometimes things do get lost in the shuffle or there may have been a request that you can write back for them. If they say you have been rejected thank them for the information and ask if there is something you could do to make your proposal stronger next time. They often will give you costly nuggets of information you can record and use.

5. Send gifts of any kind, or offer to take them out to lunch/dinner, etc. This is strictly forbidden

6. Realize that grant funding is a long haul. It takes time to build up rapport. I found, in my agency, that grant boards will typically give you a small grant to get to know you. Some foundations have a policy to not fund any assosication in the following funding cycle so that you may have to wait months of even two years before applying again. When you do receive funding make determined that you send in all required documentation of how the grant was used. This will build a great path back to their door-and other funder's doors. I was often amazed when I talked to grant directors that one of their first questions was "who else are you receiving money from?" No one wants to test the waters first, they all want assurances that you are credible and trustworthy. Therefore when you receive that first small grant send out press releases, put it in your newsletters for months and months. It's your foot in the door for many golden opportunities.

Best of Luck

How to Capture Those Elusive Grants

We all know that seeing the very first foosball table can be tricky. Some habitancy do not know which type to choose, nor do they know about the price range and other conditions. The first thing that a person has to consider, think about, take into consideration is most absolutely:

1) The purpose of the table
2) Who is going to play
3) The budget
4) The type

Train Table For Kids

Surely, before we can even determine which type to pick, we have to be conscious and be determined about the actual use of our hereafter table. Are you easy going to spend some time, let´s say twice per week with your kids, or are you rather going to train every single day on this table to establish skill, so that you can hopefully partake on some tournaments or championships? This makes a huge incompatibility in the selection process. On the other side, you will have to keep an eye on your budget and financial resources. You never want to buy something that is hyper expensive, you can´t afford just in order to get it.

The cheapest types start from somewhere colse to $ 100+. You won´t get some decent ability for this price, nor will this foosball table last for a lifetime, but it is a good start to add more fun and enjoyment to ones hobby. The more high-priced tables can go up in the multiple thousands of dollars, so what that means, they´re probably not very affordable for the average earner or player. If you are the type of person who prefers ability over quantity, which is a wise selection when it comes to foosball tables, you might want to go with used. These modules usually cost colse to 30 - 50 % from the primary price, however, this can also differ enormously. That means, if a semi- professional tournament table which cost colse to $ 900 new, can be bought for colse to $ 300 - $ 450.

Some of the top types and brands in the foosball manufactures are most absolutely Harvard and Sportscraft. These associates furnish astonishing tables, and if you are familiar or watch tournaments regularly, you pretty likely noticed that these tables are used on these extra occasions. You can bet that every foosball table that is used in big tournaments, or at least most of them, have outstanding conditions. This is just an option, not a must. Should you still prefer and prioritize to go with a brand new type, than you will find those kinds in your local provider, internet or bigger shopping malls.

How To Find Your Ideal Foosball Table

I want you to think about all the coaches you have ever experienced in your lifetime. What do all the best coaches have in common? Is their wonderful knowledge of the game, their potential to deal with adversity, or are they just simply the best communicators? I am going to go with the latter. In my experience, the best coaches are all the time the best communicators. I don't care how knowledgeable you are, if you cannot join together with other human being and help them to understand how to get better, then you are back to quadrate one. If you are like most of us out there, we need a lot of work on our communication skills which is why I wanted to share 7 sure fire communication techniques that will help you come to be a better communicator in your next batting institution session.

#1: Play the why game. You remember this game as a kid. You ask your parents a question, they answer, and then you ask why? This may be annoying for parents, but request a lot of questions goes a long way in your baseball batting sessions. The more questions you ask, the more you learn about your players. The more you learn about your players, the easier it is to understand what hurdles are holding them back. What do you feel you need work on? How did that swing differ from the previous one? These are just two qualified questions that you can use to help educate your player on what will take his batting skills to the next level. If you find yourself talking at your player, revert back to more questions.

Train Table For Kids

The second baseball batting coaching strategy revolves colse to emotion and temper. Player emotions will all the time run high; it is in their nature. Performance feels very personal and when you?fail? it can be very embarrassing and self-deflating. This is exactly why your relaxed definite nature must never change. If you get frustrated and raise your tone you are only going to add pressure to the situation and fuel the fire. One of the main responsibilities of a batting coach is to ease player tension and get them back to a relaxed state so they can perform at a high level. Keep in mind that your dissatisfaction is a corollary of your lack of potential to help your player make the batting adjustments necessary. If you remain relaxed and positive, so will he.

#3: change what you say. I was once told that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a distinct result. If this is your fifth baseball batting training session and your player is still struggling to understand what you are teaching, change the words that come out of your mouth. It?s ridiculous to think that repeating yourself over and over again is eventually going to work. If you truly believe that, tape article yourself and play it back every time you meet because it will save you the issue of talking! Be creative in your arrival and find what connects with your player. Every player learns differently. If you find the sayings that join together with him, then you find the key to creating a better swing.

Batting Training communication Technique #4: Give your players permission to fail. That's right, I said it! To many coaches and players believe that failure isn't an option. To that I say,'Good Luck!' Not only is failure an option, it's going to happen 7 out of every 10 times at the plate. Have fun trying not to fail! The real problem lies in the term failure which is why I want to give you a great quote from Thomas Edison. Yes, the guy who invented the light bulb.?I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.? Get the idea! Every baseball swing, good or bad, is a studying experience. Every failure just gives you a better idea of what not to do and gets you one step closer on what to do. Unfortunately, most habitancy take failure personally instead of using it as a studying experience.

Batting Training communication Technique #5: It's a two way street. You can enhance your coaching by receiving feedback from your players. If you are going to dish it out, you have to be able to take it. Ask you players what you could do better to help them perform their goals. If you go in with an open mind and take good notes, players will let you know what hurdles they are facing. By exposing any issues that are on the table, you can work together fix any issues. Working together towards a common goal creates a stronger bond and builds trust.

Batting Training communication Technique #6: Be lavish in your praise, and short to criticize. This is an old sales technique. habitancy like to know that they are making expand and are doing a good job. On the flip side, players hate to be criticized and will resent you for it. It has nothing do with you, it's just the way of the world. If you want to get your players to work harder, be lavish in your praise. Recompense your players for the smallest accomplishments in your baseball batting training sessions and they will work twice as hard to get better.

Batting Training communication Technique #7: Baseball is fun, make a joke or two. A lot of comedic things happen the baseball field. Let your players know that it is okay to laugh when something is funny. I have played for too many coaches who take the game to serious. Players play their best baseball when they are relaxed and enjoy the game. If you find things are getting a bit too tense, add some humor to the situation. After all, the reckon you start playing the game is because it is fun.

The best baseball coaches are teachers of the game and learn just as much from their players, as their players learn from them. By using the techniques you have learned here today, you will not only come to be a better communicator, but will have a more rewarding coaching experience. Bridging the gap of communication will allow you build a much stronger bond with the players colse to you. If you want to take your players talent to the next level, take your communication to the next level.

Have you considered construction a train table or a hobby table for your children? Why not? It is really very easy.

My son, Rob, wanted a table for his son so he could play with his Thomas the Tank Engine.  That way, the pieces of the train would stay on the table and were not all over the floor.   Rob wanted the table to be strong so if his son climbed on top of the table, it would not buckle under him.  What he wanted simply was not available unless he wanted to pay a small fortune for it.  For that reason, Rob decided to build the table.

Train Table For Kids

It had to be fairly basic as he had a very wee whole of tools. It also had to be completed partly indoors and partly outdoors due to his wee space, and swiftly as his son was having a birthday party in a concentrate of days.  Rob wanted to unveil the table at the party.

The base of the train table size was considered by the sizes of precut lumber the local big box carried.  This was to reduce the whole of board cutting.  He wanted a good finding wood close that could be stained or painted.  He wanted the train/hobby table to be durable and strong for his son and to last a long time.

Rob ultimately decided to build a table 2 feet wide by 4 feet long and 2 feet high.  simple hand tools could be used and the corollary would meet his requirements.

If you have and can use basic wood working tools, you can make a table for your child.

A craft show is one great opening for any crafts maker to showcase the products borne out of one's creativity and hard work. The way you gift your art will by all means; of course sway the whole of people that will visit your exhibit and pay attention to what you are selling.

One of the major items that you should focus your attention to is the craft show table. Remember that is where your products will be displayed and will serve as the stage for your show. Here are some tips that you can share and take note of to heighten your exhibit and help in generating more sales for your craft.

Train Table For Kids

Prepare a nice cover for your table. Place a table cloth that reaches down the floor and covers all the sides that can be seen by the public. Make sure that any boxes that you keep underneath will not be seen. Nobody would want to visit, much more buy from, a sloppy looking, shabby craft show booth. Your display should not look like it was just thrown together from leftover items in your garage.

First impressions last so many people would equate the potential of your work with the potential that they are looking on your craft show table. people would think that your products are of low potential if the first thing that they see is a dirty, shaky table with scratches and all. The impression that you want to give is that you spent a lot of your costly time perfecting your craft and skills. And the time that you spend in manufacture sure that your display will reflect that will all be worth the while.

There are some kinds of display tables that you can use to make sure that your display is going to be easier to manage, yet have the look of expert quality. First, there are instant tables that were made specifically for artists. These are tables that you can right away prop up and create a sturdy but dramatic display. Most tables of this type are made with an aluminum top, locking connectors, a shelf, footpads, toggle buttons and allows easy height adjustments.

There are also plastic resin folding table that can do the work for you. These types of tables would ordinarily work where wood tables cannot work. These are designed to withstand the everyday rigors of a workshop or studio environment. These are waterproof and can undergo strong materials like lacquer thinner, paint, paint removers, alcohol, gasoline and acids.

Remember, the key in manufacture sure that your craft is show properly is to make the display table as clean and orderly as possible.

Since circular saws are the conveyable version of a table saw, they are not meant to be fixed to a table. However, the portability can be a disadvantage if you are trying to make precision cuts such as miters or other angles. To help you make more spoton cuts, you can build a circular saw table in your own shop.

Step 1

Train Table For Kids

Gather your materials which contain a 3/4" thick medium density overlay (Mdo) in a 36"X16" sheet, a 36"X8 1/2" piece, a 36"X1" piece, and two 36"X1 1/2 " pieces, a pencil, ruler, jigsaw, eight strips of 1"X2" wood, nails, hammer, drill, 1/4" and 1/2" drill bits, screws, circular saw, 1/2" dowel, speed square, and 1/4" carriage bolt.

Step 2

Mark the median 3/4" in from the edge on the long side of the 36"X16" Mdo.

Step 3

Using the ruler, mark a radius from this median on that front edge. Next, draw a level line 10 inches from and parallel to the back edge.

Step 4

To cut out the table that you just marked, use the jigsaw to cut down the 10" line, nearby the radius, and down the 10" line on the other side. You now have the shape of the table.

Step 5

Flipping the table to its back, nail six strips of the 1"X2" wood to all of the level edges as the support for the table.

Step 6

Go back to the former median mark on the topside and drill a 1/2" hole in which the dowel will be located to serve as the pivot for the arm.

Step 7

Down from the hole on this topside, attach two more 1"X2" strips 10 inches long to serve as the fence for the guide.

Step 8

Take the two pieces of Mdo that are 36"X1 1/2" and cut a 45-degree angle off of each end. With the angles facing inward, screw these two pieces onto the ends of the 36"X8 1/2" piece of Mdo. This makes the carriage with spacers.

Step 9

Screw the 36"X1 1/2" Mdo to the edge of the 36"X4" Mdo at a 90-degree angle to originate a guide lip. Attach this assembly to the support blocks of the carriage with screws. To make the opposite side of the guide, screw the 36"X2" Mdo to the other side of the carriage. The circular saw's blade should pass straight through the gap as it follows the guide lip, but you may need to adjust the gap width for your single saw.

Step 10

Now, with the saw against the guide lip and the blade in the gap, fix an opposite lip to keep the saw level as it passing straight through the carriage by screwing on a 36"X1" strip of Mdo on the opposite side.

Step 11

Flip this carriage over and part down 7 inches from the top edge. Mark the median of the width at this point and drill a 1/2" hole for the dowel.

Step 12

Removing the upper part of the carriage, place the base under the table and tap the 1/2" dowel straight through both the table and carriage, not allowing the dowel to stick out past the carriage blocks. Then, reattach the upper part of the carriage.

Step 13

Slide the carriage arm as far right as possible. Putting the speed square in the middle of the arm and the fence at a 45-degree angle, drill a 1/4" hole straight through the upper assembly and tabletop to acquire the arm with a carriage bolt. Do the same at the 90-degree and 45-degree left angle to make repeated angle cuts.

Your circular saw table is ready to use. Place the wood to be cut against the fence. Line up the arm to the angle that you want. Put the circular saw in the guide arm with a depth set so that you will only cut 1/8" into the table. Make your cut. You can now make spoton angle cuts time after time with your circular saw table.

You Can Build Your Own Circular Saw Table

As I was laying in bed the other night thoughts of Dexter, our pit bull - boxer entered my mind. I am not sure why the thoughts came rushing back this single night. The movie playing in my head was comical though.

The puppy was running full speed in a circle nearby our living room. As he geared up his wee legs scrambled for traction on our new laminate flooring. As he slipped and slid, he would round the corner. Under the coffee table and straight through the end tables Dexter wound his way straight through the maze he used as his racetrack. It became a nightly ritual for our new puppy, running at all out full speed until he dropped.

Train Table For Kids

As I drifted off to sleep, I remember feeling my lips curl upward into a smile. I even remember slightly laughing aloud. He sure was a site to see. Dexter came to us the same month we opened our nationwide auto vehicle business. I will admit I was not very happy about it. Like most parents, we did not pick Dexter. Our son received him as a gift from a co-worker and could not say no. He brought him home and handed him to me, all 5 pounds of him. Reasoning back I should have put my foot down and said no, but just like us parents do...I did not.

Through all the kicking, screaming and denial my heart absolutely melted when I took the first look at his wee face. He licked my nose and it was all over. Instant bonding took place that day. wee did I know that running a enterprise would be like raising a puppy.

Getting acquainted...

The biggest suspect I did not want another dog was I knew it would be busy in the office. Answering phone calls for customers requesting auto vehicle quotes would take time. Puppies also take a mountainous estimate of time to train the right way. There would be no time to play, house break him or show him the attentiveness he would need.

There was also the issue of time to take him to get his puppy shots. We bought special puppy food because boxers get a lot of gas. Just like toddlers, puppies need toys to occupy their days. Reasoning about the sleepless nights ahead of me I cringed. I was Reasoning about the long hours I would be putting into building the nationwide auto vehicle business. Why did I not put my foot down and say no to my son?

My husband and son both worked full-time at jobs exterior of the home. On the other hand, I was here 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If you have ever owned a new puppy you know, the breaking in duration is crazy.

So began the improvement of our relationship. Up at 5 Am we would go exterior together for his morning ritual of sniffing the grass. Running nearby like that was all we had to do was crazy. He was so wee that the grass scratched his wee belly. Either it was pouring rain, or 115* outside, there we would be playing in the dark.

As the school bus drove by, the driver would honk and wave. All of the kids were smiling as if we were their entertainment. The parents driving carpools would stop and watch. Some of them even shouted out, "awe, how cute". Soon they would wave and off they would go to drop the kids at school.

Our day got started in the office after our first morning outing. Dexter and I both soon learned how to work together. The office guard puppy and the nationwide auto vehicle broker in case, granted auto vehicle quotes to customers daily. He learned to lie on the rug in the doorway. I learned to take breaks, eat meals and love on my new companion while building my car shipping business.

Come back next time for the chronic story of Dexter, our office dog and the broker who provides customers with auto vehicle quotes.

Inquiring Snow Whites Want to Know - Why Are Scarletts So Annoying*?

"She is So dramatic," Megan complained. "You would think she is the only person to ever be mismatched on Match.com."

Train Table For Kids

"She never asks how I am. She goes on and on and on. And, if I try to come up with a solution for what she is whining about....She pinches my head off."

"And," Megan pounded the table for emphasis, "What positively pisses me off is that she has no trouble attracting men....they flock to her like bees to a flower." "She goes straight through men like I go straight through mascara."

Sound familiar? Do you have a friend who loves to talk about what is wrong and doesn't think she is being negative? In my work with single women longing to be married, there are four types of self sabotage that I see. I have sorted them into Snow Whites, Scarlett O'Haras, Sleeping Beauties and Rapunzels. Each Saboteur Style is uniquely and profoundly successful in holding women single against their will.

Can you relate? Do you have a girl friend who is a Scarlett O'Hara? I do. One of my closest friends ever is a Scarlett and as a Snow White, I have been So frustrated with her over the years. Of course, being true blue to my Snow White tendencies, I haven't been so successful connecting to her over the years.

I love to help people. I also get impatient when women allow themselves to be in awful circumstances and spend more time complaining than taking performance to conclude the drama and trauma of the moment. If a friend continually talks about what is not working in her life (very typical of Scarlett) she is like a runaway train. If I Can get a word in edgewise, she doesn't want to hear anything about her role in the drama.

As a Snow White, I like solutions and order. I like crossing items off of to do lists and I love construction and accomplishing things. I suppose I am totally annoying to my Scarlett friends too. Hmmm. So here I sit this morning pondering. How can a Snow White be a good friend to a Scarlett who is floundering a bit in life?

Here are a few suggestions:

1. Find The Value Under Her Complaint: If Scarlett is ranting about how her co-worker shirks her responsibilities and Scarlett has to do her work and the co-workers without any appreciation or payment (A typical stuck place for Scarletts), instead of trying to 'coach' her into a great attitude (A Very typical Snow White response) try this. Search for the basic Core Value to reflect back to her. This will make her feel heard and that is sweet elixir for Scarlett. For example:

Scarlett: "I am furious with June. She will not file at the end of the day and if I don't do it, our shared work space is a mess in the morning. I can't stand it."

Snow White Wants to say: "You know June, she is going straight through that divorce and her children are in so much day care that she is feeling guilty. I bet she is just distracted and exhausted."

Snow White's Scarlett kindly Response: "So it sounds like population being responsible for their workspace and doing the job they are paid for is prominent to you."

You will be shocked how this seems to soothe the heart of a Scarlett. It takes some effort to find the Core Value...but it can be done. So worth it if you want to join together to her.

2. Set Parameters on Your Phone Conversations I used to be permanently ready to my varied and varied Scarletts (yes, I have attracted them all of my life!). Because of my kind and sweet nature and my willing ear, I would spend hours on the phone comforting, cajoling and cheering on my friends and family. Until....I realized that Scarletts tend to be Time Bandits. They can steal time in a twinkling of an eye. You know what I mean. Now I start the conversations with a time limit. Simply telling Scarlett that you have 15 minutes to focus on her and then honoring your own decision encourages her to cut to the chase. At times, I will positively tell my Scarlett friends to give me the Cliff Notes version right up front.

3. Ask If She Wants Your Help or Just To Vent Be direct. I know this is a big challenge for Snow Whites. We tend to be the queens of understatement and clue giving. I kiddingly say that I wish my hubby could read my mind. Truth is he can't and neither can anything else. You learn to be assertive and kind and Scarlett will talk and respect you for it. Plus, once you stop gift unsolicited help, she may very well ask for and result your counsel when she is ready to turn her circumstances.

4. Encourage Scarlett To Engage With A Cause There is not a Scarlett I know who is not passionate about one cause or another. Either it is the plight of the Palestinians, starving children in the third world, a myriad of political causes or animal rights, your Scarlett has a strong tendency to maintain causes. If she is going straight through a tough time, she may not be acting on these primal urges. You know her. What does she care about. Getting Scarlett to refocus on something bigger than herself is one of the most vital gifts you can give. Animal causes are thoughprovoking to Scarletts because of the drama-free zone they provide. Google The Snow Leopard Trust.

5. Four Magic Words That Open a Scarlett's Heart: Scarlett can be challenging. Swinging from wildly independent to needing constant propping up. She is thoughprovoking and bigger than life and can be a fabulous friend. Snow White has a hard time with the drama and trauma but it is possible to forge a great alliance if you want it. There are four magic words that will melt a Scarlett's heart and help her let down her guard every time. Ready? Here they are: "You're right about that." It is fabulous how hearing those words helps Scarlett feel happier. Don't bulls-t her. She is very savvy and can sniff out insincerity a mile away, but do agree with her whenever you can. As a Snow White, you may doubt how powerful this tool is. Just try it.

*Oh and by the way, did you notice the asterisk in the title? Well, that is there because we Snow Whites annoy the living tar out of our Scarlett friends and family. I will write all about that in a hereafter article.

This weekend we were hosting a exiguous family get-together to celebrate Mom's 85th birthday (which happens to be today - Happy Birthday, Mom!). We were sitting around the table, visiting, when I heard my fantastic daughter say something that surprised me and that, frankly, wasn't wonderful. I held my tongue out of respect for the occasion and for Mom (and because I didn't want to embarrass my daughter in front of everybody)... But because the annotation was indicative of what I see as a disturbing trend in our society, I want to make a few points here. I in effect welcome comments!

The topic was an upcoming trip to Liberia that my daughter's planning, along with a group from her workplace, to help build a school and do some teaching and outreach with the local folks. I'm thrilled she's doing this, and it'll be a great experience. Mom asked my kid what language they'd be using, and she replied that it'd be mostly English, though French is also spoken in Liberia. My wife pointed out that the daughter did study French and speaks a exiguous of the language, for which we're also proud of her. Then the talk turned to the topic of languages habitancy study in school, and somebody commented that more habitancy should learn Spanish, given the high whole of folks around our part of the world who speak it. My daughter commented that some Americans plainly "refuse to learn Spanish," and that the reckon was "about hate."

Train Table For Kids

At that point, I think I did a great job of playing it cool, together with not spewing my food all over the family.

So if I have this right, her point was that we here in America should all learn Spanish, and if we don't, we're haters.

When I was in school, way back during the Cold War (look that one up, kids), I decided to study Russian. Not because I hated or feared Russians, nor because I didn't, but because I understanding it might come in handy if I was ever involved in some sort of dealings with the Soviet Union on profit of my country. Being a peace-loving kid, my understanding was that I might be a translator at the U.N., or maybe even a inexpressive Bible-courier to Scripture-starved folks behind the iron curtain. I got two years of Russian (and it was my best subject) before we moved to a new school that didn't offer it, at which point I signed up for German and studied that language for four years. I did not want to learn German because I hated or feared Germans, nor because I didn't... It just seemed like a cool language spoken in a place I might want to visit someday. At this point, both languages have come in handy. I remember very exiguous Russian, but adequate to change pleasantries with Russian-speaking friends of ours in Colorado and with Russian-speaking folks I've met in my business dealings. My German, while not great, is much better, mostly because I've spent a lot of time at work in Germany and Austria (by the way, German is the language spoken in Austria, Mr. President, not "Austrian").

Since then, and especially since the fall of the Soviet Union, many habitancy who have German or Russian as their native language have moved to the United States. Our Ukrainian friends in Colorado are among the ones I know about. In fact one of my wife's best friends is a fantastic Ukrainian lady who, after years of work and study, earned her U.S. Citizenship a concentrate of years ago. Her English is very good, and it took a lot of hard work for her to make it so. She knows more about world history and American history than do any of my four twenty-something kids, I'll warrant, because she had to pass a test to come to be a citizen. She is a great example of an immigrant who did it right. She didn't move to America to carve out a Ukrainian enclave and claim it as detach from her U.S. Neighbors. She came, as did thousands of others before and since (from every country on the globe) because she wanted to be part of this America thing. And she in effect is.

Oh, and she didn't expect Americans to learn Ukrainian-dialect Russian to accommodate her - it was a nice surprise when I greeted her in Russian. And she in effect doesn't think my wife, who speaks no Russian, is a hater of any sort. Not a hater of her, not a hater of her country, not a hater at all.

I heard a radio commentator the other day review this politicized shift in the definition of "hate." To liberals, "hate" is any understanding with which liberals don't agree.

If I were going to go live in Austria (the thought's crossed my mind - it's beautiful), I'd expect to hone my German, and hone it good. A lot of folks there speak English, and I'm grateful to them for being able to help me when I perambulate into their stores, but if I were going to live and work there I'd expect to be doing most of my speaking and listening in German. And I would be meticulous to contemplate the leading parts of Austrian culture and heritage, and I would study-up on the nation. It wouldn't make me Austrian - I'd still be an American - but it would make me a great guest. And if I stayed permanently, it'd make me a great member of Austrian society.

When Latin Americans move here, some do it legally, like our Ukrainian-born friend. Some (like, about 20 million so far) don't. A good whole of those illegal aliens are good habitancy seeking to do "the jobs Americans just won't do" (though if those jobs weren't being done by illegal aliens, Americans like my kids would have to do them, and then maybe young habitancy in this country would start studying what real work is all about). Far too many, though, are not all that noble. They barge in, run their drug cartels, kidnap habitancy in Phoenix, insist we print all in Spanish while refusing to learn the language this country's been running on for centuries, query free group services such as condition care and study at taxpayer expense, burn our flag while waving theirs, and ordinarily behave like pretty rude guests.

While Latin Americans, primarily Mexican citizens, are not the only offenders (see the current flaps over the "Ground Zero Mosque" and insistence upon shariah law by up-to-date Muslim immigrants), the high profile assumed by Mexican border-jumpers draws most of the concentration in the national discussion about illegal immigration. The liberals who've taken over the Democrat party, for instance, seem to do anyone they can to remove any barriers to illegal immigration to the U.S., throwing out the welcome mat for the "hard working" and "criminal" elements alike. Some pundits quip that they see these "undocumented workers" as "unregistered Democrats." One Democrat politician speaking at a deliberate upon in the current brainless Season insisted upon calling these illegal aliens "New Americans."

If someone breaks into my home, am I supposed to regard that someone as a "New Son" or "New Daughter?" Am I improbable to learn a new language to accommodate them?

Speaking of daughters, I find it hard to be too rough on mine for what she said at the table the other day. She is an adult, which means she no longer looks to her parents for advice on how to think and make decisions... She's left at the mercy of institutions which have long been dominated by "progressives." The news media, the schoraly and scientific communities, the government, and even the entertainment business work hard to make sure Americans of my daughter's age have nothing but a steady diet of left-wing liberalism running straight through their minds. Hard to blame her professors, reporters, legislators and movie directors, too; after all, they all had to go to school and get "trained" to do their jobs, and their professors, reporters, legislators and movie directors were just as liberal (for the most part). It has taken more than a century for the progressives to take over the leading institutions, but take over they have. They don't have to work in concert (or ever even speak to one another) to effectively function as a global conspiracy against wealth, independence, and personal responsibility. And each generation, this liberal "thought creep" seems more and more normal. Without periodic reminders of how badly socialism wrecks a society (such as the Soviet experiment), we might long ago have lost our republic altogether.

So I'm not "blaming." I'm plainly offering the other side of the argument, a side which includes truths that are hard to find these days because of the concerted efforts of the institutions I've named. Concerning immigration, the fact is America is comprised fully of immigrants, if you go back adequate generations. It is, however, not a loose multi-cultural collection of enclaves... It's a melting pot. Immigrants are thriving in this land of occasion when they concentrate into American culture and society (while not forgetting their native culture). They need to learn English, they need to partake in our melting-pot culture (adding their own seasonings), and they need to apply properly for citizenship, in order to help us all perpetuate the great free society that is America.

German chancellor Angela Merkel said in a speech this week that multi-culturalism has failed in her country, too. There, they aren't Mexicans, but large numbers of Muslim immigrants who are behaving more like invaders than "New Germans."

The best book on this subject, in my opinion, is Victor Davis Hansen's "Mexifornia." I heartily recommend it. Hansen is clear in his assertion that assimilation, not multi-culturalism, is what's needed for healthy maintenance of the great melting pot. Such immigration has in effect been the historic power of our nation, and has kept us supplied with a steady stream of hard-working, optimistic entrepreneur-types. I want for my neighbors all those immigrants I can get, Mexican or otherwise. On average, each will be the type of someone who's all the time come here to start a business, create wealth, create jobs for others, and contribute to the condition of America.

I gave a copy of "Mexifornia" to my daughter a concentrate years ago. I guess she hasn't had time to read it yet. But I hope she will; maybe she'll read this piece and maybe we'll ultimately get a good discussion going. Like all my offspring, I love her unconditionally, and she's in effect free to disagree with me.

I hope she doesn't "hate" me for it.

Postscript: A few lines above, I inserted a dig against President Obama Concerning German being the language spoken in Austria. Some months ago, during a visit to Austria, Mr. Obama gaffed that he didn't know how to review something in "Austrian." If this is the first you're hearing of that gaffe, I pronounce that my point is made about the sycophantic nature of such leading institutions as the news media in America. While you heard endless repetitions of every mis-pronunciation of the word "nuclear" by his predecessor, you're unlikely to hear about the goofs made by the media's darling Obama. And any mention of those goofs is often sold as racism, class elitism, or simply... Hate.

A well notion out model railroad backdrop is an vital part of landscaping that should not be overlooked. Here is a guide for a selecting the best background for your train.

One of the blunders I have seen over the years is when a modeler has a gorgeous train layout with lots of concentration to details, and a backdrop that looks roughly like an afterthought. It admittedly detracts from the whole look. Don't fall into the trap of a haphazard background for your railroad.

Train Table For Kids

Do It Yourself

You don't have to be a skilled artist to be able to paint your own landscape, but you do have to practice. If you decide to do it yourself, start by practicing on poster board until you are happy with your technique. Be sure to select the right colors to give a seamless transition from 3-D to 2-D. Pick a spectrum of greens, browns, and greys that reflect the colors of the ground foam products you already use for your ground cover and rocks.

You can keep the background fairly uncomplicated and still accomplish a great look. You basically need three elements: hills, sky, and trees. The hills should gradually slope upwards and downwards, and they will be speckled throughout with various trees. The sky above will of procedure need clouds, so study pictures and basic cloud painting techniques online.

Use Digital Photos

If you have a flair for photography, you can originate a convention backdrop using your own digital photos. Head to the great outdoors and find the right scene that you think would be an suitable background for your trains. Set your camera up on a tripod to stabilize it and then take a series of side by side photos, taking care to capture the entire landscape. These can be printed onto wallpaper and adhered to the wall with paste. The results will be stunning. Be sure to ask for mildew unyielding wallpaper.

Panoramic Wall Murals

A third option is to use panoramic wall murals scaled to the suitable size for your railroad. These are pro photographs printed onto wallpaper or vinyl wall banner material. You can select from cityscapes, mountainscapes, or scenes with rolling hills. Be sure to measure the distance of your layout so you aren't left short. Again, if you're going for wallpaper, use mildew resistant.

You've spent countless hours on your model railroad. Spend a puny time and quit the look of your entire layout with a great model railroad backdrop. Not only will it complement your existing scenery, it will be a grand finishing touch that admittedly completes your railroad.

The well known Thomas Train pictures of today are not what were originally drawn. It is true that each engine was designed to have a dissimilar facial expression but they were mostly sad expressions. The Reverend explained the infer to his son as they are old and tired engines. The saddest was Edward. His sadness was due to not being used and left at the terminal. This was unmistakably the starting of the first story that was written down. The first story line was named "Edward's Day Out."

Once the series was commercialized in the 1980's the smiles started to appear on a regular basis. This is the most recognized expression on most of the Thomas the Tank engine pictures. It is Thomas and his notable smile. Other characters in many of the pictures with Thomas are the cheerful Percy, Moody James, the Proud and Boastful Gordon, Bertie the Bus, Terence the Tractor, Harold the Helicopter and the coaches of Annie and Clarabel.

Train Table For Kids

Most of the scenes are from the island of Sodor. This is a fictional island between the Isle of Man and the coast of England in the Irish Sea. This island was created so the story lines of the books would be consistent but isolated from the rest of the British railway system, so the Reverend could be creative with his story lines.

At present there are still new pictures of Thomas and his friends being produced from the new story lines and from the imagination of artists. The one constant in all of the Thomas Train pictures is the fact that he is blue with a big #1 on his side.

The best and quickest way to enhance your life is simple: just think more positively.

You've probably heard this many times before. And you're probably thinking, "That's a great idea, but in the real world it's much easier said than done."

Train Table For Kids

It's true; like a lot of things in life, becoming a "positive" someone is an idea that is simple but not necessarily easy. The goal of this brief description is to give you a few straightforward and practical techniques that will help you make determined mental an self-acting and permanent part of your life.

Positive mental is Critically Important

Your thought patterns have a huge work on over every aspect of your life. Your thoughts decide your personality, the quality of your relationships, your financial success, your bodily health, and much more.

You probably have an idea of the power of your thoughts. The fact that you're reading this indicates you know it's important. But if you're like most people, you still grossly underestimate the fine physiological effects your thoughts can have.

For example, by plainly mental of biting into a juicy, yellow lemon you can make your mouth water. That's just a small example of how a thought can generate chemical changes in the body.

The fact is that your thoughts greatly work on much more important things than saliva production. Science has shown that determined thoughts increase your white blood cell count which helps you fight infection and disease. In a study recently published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers at the University of Wisconsin proved that habitancy who convention determined mental are best adequate to fight disease.

In the study, a team of neuroscientists used electroencephalography to quantum brain action and then gave all the subjects flu shots. What they found is that determined mental individuals had a significantly stronger immune response than those who exhibited more a negative thought patterns. The lowest line: determined mental can make you not only happier but healthier as well.

How Do You come to be a determined Thinker?

If you currently have habitual negative thought patterns - and most everybody does - you can learn to eliminate them and replace them with determined thought habits. But it won't happen on its own. You have to make a conscious decision to make a change. Once you do that - and with the help of a few straightforward techniques - it's well pretty easy to come to be totally positive.

Here are a few straightforward techniques you can start using right now:

Smile and Let the Tail Wag the Dog

Being happy can make you smile. But does it also work the other way? Can smiling make you happy?

Researchers at the University of California at San Francisco have discovered that mimicking the facial expressions associated with such emotions as happiness, sadness, and anger can trigger some of the same bodily changes produced by well feeling these emotions. By measuring an array of biometrics - such as heart rate, body temperature, and the electrical resistance of the skin - they demonstrated that plainly smiling made the body "happy." Apparently engaging facial muscles sends signals to the autonomic nervous system, which controls determined muscle and gland activity. This, in turn, spurs the bodily reactions. So, smile and you'll be happy!

Create a Triggering Mechanism for Yourself

Now try your own smiling experiment. Put a big smile on your face right now. You may have to force it at first but do it anyway and see what happens. It's okay if you feel silly. Let the silliness make you smile even more.

As you smile, think of anytime in the past when you felt very happy, joyful and positive. We've all had experiences in our lives when we have felt very positive. Let yourself replay some of those determined moments right now. Let yourself relive feelings of being determined and confident. Continue to smile. Release all cares and concerns and with a big smile on your face, feel yourself becoming more and more determined and carefree.

As your determined feelings continue to build, press the thumb and middle finger of whether hand together slowly but firmly, and say to yourself "I am positive!" Again, while you're feeling very positive, press your thumb and middle finger together and say "I am positive!"

You have just programmed yourself with a mechanism that you can use to trigger these same determined thoughts and feeling anytime you choose. convention this often and soon you'll observation that you can have a determined attitude in any situation merely by pressing your thumb and middle finger together and saying "I am positive!"

Choose Your Words Carefully

What you say and the words you select are very important to maintaining a determined perspective and eliciting determined outcomes.

For example, reconsider the word "don't". If you call out to a child "Don't slam the door!" what's the next sound we commonly hear? Bam!! That's right, the door slamming. It's as if the child didn't hear the "don't." Only the determined part of the statement got through: "Slam the door!" However, if you say "Close the door softly," the child will be much more likely to comply.

Another hazardous word is "can't." habitancy often say I can't lose weight, or I can't quit smoking, or I can't remember names. The more they say that, the more it becomes reality. From now on, let the use of that word be like a red light flashing as a warning that this is negative programming that can generate false limitations. Don't let this word rob you of your true potential.

Eject Negative Self-Talk

More important than the words you say to others are the words you say to yourself. We all have an inner voice that reflects our subconscious thinking. Unfortunately, a lot of our self-talk is negative. For example: "I'll never be able to do it", or "I'll never understand it", or "I'm not smart enough", or "If something can go wrong, it will".

To eliminate negative self-talk you must first come to be aware of it. What are the things that you say to yourself that limit your potential? The moment you come to be aware of the negativity eject it! You can eject it just as well as you can eject a tape from a tape deck.

To make that ejection more vivid, you can press your index finger against your thumb, or against a table or a dashboard, as if you're pressing a button, and at the same time emphatically say "Eject!" Then immediately replace the negative with a determined such as "I can!" Over time, repeating this straightforward bodily action will go a long way to helping you come to be totally positive.

Train Your Brain through Meditation

Research has shown that meditation increases action in the left prefrontal cortex; the same area of the brain that scientists connect with determined thinking. And habitancy who meditate commonly are typically found to be more determined and healthier than the habitancy in general. So learn how to meditate - and convention it often. You'll train your brain to use its determined mental centers more facilely and quickly come to be a more determined person.

Remind Yourself of What's Important

A friend of ours who is a salesman and who's away from his home and house more than he'd like to be, told us about a tape he put together that never fails to lift his spirits. The tape consists of a series of messages from the most important habitancy in his life: his wife, his father, his kids, and his closest friend. On his tape, each of these habitancy says, in his or her own words, how important this man is to them. They say what they like, admire, and respect about him. They say how much they appreciate him, love him, and miss him when he's away. He says that after a tough sales call, or anytime he needs a lift, he plays that tape and at once he feels very fortunate, very happy, and has greater sense of self-worth. It puts all back in its proper perspective, and gives him renewed drive and a very determined attitude. perhaps you could benefit from creating a similar tape of your own.

Wash Away Negativity with a fine Visualization

Another technique for feeling totally determined is called the funnel of energy. It's a straightforward visualization exercise that can take less than a minute, but it makes you feel great.

Here's how you do it. Imagine there's a funnel of determined power flowing in through the top of your head. This determined power comes from the purist, highest, most divine source of power in the universe. It makes you feel more alive, stronger, more aware and alert. Welcome Life's Obstacles - Adversity is Opportunity

Life throws each of us a lot of curves. No one goes through life without problems, or without running into obstacles. And some of these problems or obstacles can be huge. But what's well important is how we face these obstacles. If we think negatively, we can be overwhelmed, give up or come to be ineffective in dealing with them. But there is a much best way to deal with them. We can select to look for something determined in the situation. We can select to reconsider it a blessing in disguise - even if we have no idea what that blessing might be.

We can look for an benefit or occasion in any situation. As Richard Bach points out in his book Illusions, "There is no such thing as a question without a gift in its hands." And the Chinese word for emergency is written with two characters. One of them means opportunity.

Many of our students have come to be so determined that when an unexpected question arises they automatically say "Oh good!" They then immediately start looking for the occasion presented by the situation. And they inevitably find it. This can work for you, too.

Learning to deal successfully with obstacles can help you live a more fulfilling life. As Booker T. Washington said, "Success is to be measured not so much by the positions that we have reached in life, as by the obstacles which we have overcome while trying to succeed."

Don't Worry - Be Happy

In order to be totally positive, we need to know how to deal with worry. Every thought we have affects us physically as well as mentally, and worry can be very harmful. Dr. Charles Mayo said; "Worry affects circulation, the heart, the glands, the whole nervous system, and profoundly affects the health."

Think about the process you go through when you worry. In your mind you photograph a negative end result. It takes no effort or willpower; you just dwell on it. And in a short time this negative end ensue appears very real to you and you generate the same emotions that you'd caress if it well happened. You caress the same fear, anxiety, or discouragement. Consequently, you end up feeling bad right now for something that is merely a thought in your mind.

At the same time you are setting up patterns in your mind for future negative experiences. The more you worry, the more you train your mind to expect bad things. Even if your "problem" never manifests itself, the worry takes its toll through immediate pain and the harmful effects of immoderate stress.

It's said that worry is interest paid in improve on a debt you may never owe. And Mark Twain put it this way; "I've had a lot of troubles in my day - most of which never happened." So, most worry is useless. You're best off ejecting it.

But you can take the same process you use to worry, convert just one thing, and it can help you immensely. Instead of imagining a negative end result, Imagine a determined one! This, too, takes very petite effort or willpower. Just dwell on that determined end ensue and in no time at all you'll be generating the emotions that are associated with that experience. You'll feel great immediately as a ensue of something that is merely a thought in your mind. You'll feel joy, happiness, and self-confidence. Plus, you'll be setting up patterns in your mind for future determined experiences.

So make the worry process work for you rather than against you. Get into the habit of expecting good things.
